In the end the great success of getting through this might be a new approach to making most of what we need in the US, to employ more Americans, to move toward some portion of self-sustainability. Medical supplies, household products, staples of daily life and necessities of all kinds. All the shit we killed jobs for to make overseas for pennies on the dollar.

I’ve been daydreaming for years about what it would take for us to make that kind of a radical shift. To pay slightly higher for certain goods because it was made in America by American employees.

Just imagine that happening. Imagine that as an eventuality to regrow the economy and unite people after the crisis of a lifetime.

    • I don’t think making everything in USA, as much as it might appeal to patriotic instincts, is going to magically result in higher wages or prosperity.yuekit
    • Think back to the early 20th century...there was far less globalization and a huge amount of industry in the USA. But conditions for workers were shit, yuekit

    • True capitalism lifts all. As it has done. Exporting labor from us towards poor nations helped them rise. Problems is progressive wage controls
      ********
    • But there is a basic reason for wage co trols in a country with a reserve currency. We grow our wealth and limit labor outside and we benefit
