Can people stop blaming the eating of bats?? That is not the case. The speculation is that this "flu", like many, started off in bats and then was spread through another conduit animal, probably poultry, before going to humans via CHICKENS

You see one stupid meme on the internet and just run with it like complete simpletons. So just stop it, ok? You're pissing me and pango off!

    • I still find weird that people eat bats.
      Didn't knew this about Pango.
      ********
    • People need to stop eating bats in general.PhanLo
    • 60 Minutes Australia lol shape :D
      ********
    • It comes from humans touching and eating normally wild animals. And in Wuhan it was an activity. These are facts. And bat soup was on the menu.shapesalad
    • no bat soup for youutopian
    • i've read it's most similar to a virus found in snakes. but yeah the idea it was from eating bats is just one theory that's stuck because folks don't understandkingsteven
    • that viruses travel between species all the time and well, xenophobia...kingsteven
    • animal and food culture would need some adjustments in some countries. I know we're not all living in rich countries like Western peopleBennn
    • Shapesalad, you're an ignorant twat.Khurram
    • The 60 minute video and other well researched ones like it that show the virus active in bats isn't a stretch. I mean better than "the US military created it"_niko
    • we had avian flu and swine flu, so why not bat flu? I mean rats, or the fleas on rats were responsible for the bubonic plague._niko
    • and why the bat love all of a sudden are you guys secretly Bruce Wayne lol?_niko
    • Relax, it’s a metaphor for the wet-market exotic flesh, feeding frenzyGnash
    • And it’s easier to spell than pangolinGnash
    • Anytime you bats in cages, on top of pigs in cages, on top of pangolins in cages next to a butcher... you've got a the best ingredients for awagshaft
    • ... species jumping virus. We need to curtail these kinds of markets.wagshaft
    • OK yeah, i was wrong. They eat bats. That's why this happened. Was trying to give them the benefit of doubt, but I was wrong. Fucking animals!!!!Khurram
    • Its called zoonosis. It's not specific to any type of animal and the cause of nearly all virus/diseases.monoboy
    • Occasionally, animal viruses mutate with human viruses and you get COVID-19.monoboy
    • Bats are known to carry all kinds of nasties, why they get singled out.monoboy
    • Eating them after cooking probably won't infect you. Being in close proximity to live animals will.monoboy
    • Poor animal husbandry won't help.monoboy
    • It could've happened anywhere in the world.monoboy
    • Just depends on when mother nature decides to make a jump from animal to human.monoboy
    • Mr Fluffikins the house cat could also infect Karen from accounts and kill us all within 6 months.monoboy
    • You can discriminate all you want. Viruses don't. ;)monoboy
    • RIP Karen.Continuity
    • I'm going to downvote myself for this one. Heard Radio 4's "Inside Science" - it's bats. Market in China labelled "jungle meat". They're eating them. Stop it!Khurram
    • MERS was bats>>camels>>arabs>... This is bats>>chinese>>world... It's in the RNA, mutations and whatnot. People and their bats!Khurram
    • @monoboy - bats are highly metabolic animals due to the energy required to flap their wings. Their high metabolism readily causes corona viruses.Khurram
    • Mr Fluffkins, who sleeps 20 hours a day, is a very low metabolic animal so does not create viruses that transmit to humans.Khurram
    • That's why we can live close proximity to cats and dogs for thousands of years and they not cause us these viruses and diseases. It's fucking bats. China!!!Khurram
    • BBC Radio 4 "Inside Science" and "Mindscape" podcast and a bunch of articles, Rupert Beale in the LRB etcKhurram
    • worst post ever :(Khurram
    • And stop talking about "mother nature" like its a thing. It's not a thing. Americans with their "mother nature". Not it isn't nature mother nothing. BATSKhurram
    • It's a phrase, not a literal explanation of biology.monoboy
    • As we clear and farm ever more remote areas, we expose ourselves to animals with new viruses.monoboy
    • Climate change is also a factor. It's not just about bats. Could well be.monoboy
    • No point in trying to pin this on a single animal or place. There's a bigger picture.monoboy
    • The furore over this though is more about criticism of different cultural norms.monoboy
    • P.S. I'm Scottish. Ya prick. ;)monoboy

    • I think we should all take this moment to think about Karen. May she rest in peace.monoboy
    • soz mate, no offence.Khurram
    • All good Khurram. No worries.monoboy
    • Has anyone here read 'Fast Food Nation' by Eric Schlosser?monoboy
    • Digs into the industrialised (and badly regulated) meat production in the US.monoboy
    • The distribution of meat into the fast food industry makes the US population severely vulnerable to contagion.monoboy
    • I'm not comparing a BigMac to bushmeat from a street stall but nothing is invulnerable to pathogens.monoboy
    • (I digress and should probably do some work instead).monoboy
