You know... there isn't one Doctor posting in this thread. Not one of you is a Doctor and neither am I. Some in this thread are sticking w/the 'must panic' BS we're hearing on MSNBC, CNN and the like... and I gotta say it's nowhere near on point w/what actual Doctors are saying (outside of the panic fucks being broadcast on said example networks).

I have been to TWO Doctor appointments already this week (it's only Tuesday). I have a shit heart... I've already had a heart attack (good times) followed up by emergency surgery years ago. I have an artificial heart valve that I must maintain / keep my blood thinned blah blah. It's a pain in the ass but I get to live. One thing I really have to fear is infection and I'm a bit more susceptible to getting sick than the average person... so I spend a shitload of time in Dr's offices for a variety of reasons.

I just got back from my 2nd appt and I was sure to smile and ask the same question for the 2nd time: "What's up w/the panic and should we be worried?" Answer: "Sure... always be concerned and simply act accordingly. Keep your hands clean, avoid public surfaces / spaces if YOU'RE SICK... don't go to work etc. No - this virus is not one you should panic over." Each DR was chill as fuck about it... both were at work poking around my body w/out any mask etc... both office waiting rooms were full... no stupid fucking masks anywhere.

Anyway... I like what DOCTOR Pinsky (aka Dr Drew) has to say... particularly about the Press:

    • thank you. thats what i try to say about the perspective.Bennn
    • i don't really see anyone on this thread panicking though, it's more folks discussing the panic and bennn occasionally shouting DON'T PANIC!kingsteven
    • I talk to real doctors about this regularly. Two of them immediate family members, and several close friends who are practicing physicians.monospaced
    • And I can confirm that they say the same thing. They are all stoked that people are now going to take the flu seriously from now on. Please, stay home, rest.monospaced
    • They even told me not to GO to the doctor if I have symptoms, not unless it's a severe fever for more than a day, at the very least. Drink liquid... REST.monospaced
    • and while we're not general practitioners, they're not really experts in virology or global pandemics, the only ones i want to hear from are on the front line.kingsteven
    • I don't see how anyone can have this attitude at this point. Look at what's happening in Italy and other countries.yuekit
    • well our Prime Minister told the media that people hadn't taken it serious enough so now they had to put stricter legislation in effect.Nutter
    • Remember 20% of infected needs treatment. In Italy they are saying the hospital system is already overloaded and they are running out of resources.yuekit

    • and https://twitter.com/…Nutter
    • Fuck you Dr. Drew, you quack!utopian
    • Acting accordingly doesn't mean you panic the public—our 'media' should be doing just the opposite. I just was at Target and couldn't find any fucking lysol :/PonyBoy
    • ... the entire 'cleaner' section had been raped. Unbelievable.PonyBoy
    • "You guys are not real Doctors"
      *posts clip of Dr. Drew
      yuekit
    • lol... to even attempt to hint at Drew as not being a real Dr shows you should probably remove yourself from the conversation... Dude's an MD and knows his shitPonyBoy
    • personally i consider long term side effects. but for the most part what it does to the world economy. italy shuts down all bars until apr 3
      ********
    • a lot of people live paycheck to paycheck and so many businesses are so over leveraged what does a month and half of no pay do. already seeing ripple effects
      ********
    • and it's not even that big yet. will the us take chinese style measures? what will happen and on perception of civil liberties. its a wild card on all fronts
      ********
    • you should be more concerned towards living. others living with the changes. dont panic, but also know irrational panic also serves purposes amongst herds
      ********
    • Dr. Drew I mainly remember from being on that show with Adam Carolla...is he an expert on viruses, pandemics?yuekit
    • i haven't quite seen any videos of a normal wuhan yet operating with chinese people everywhere. big city. big commerce.
      ********
    • say im already feeling effects with my clients. downturn is fine for me but not sure others will fare as well. Im predicting probably a 20-30% cut this year.
      ********
    • lol... I'm sorry but are you an expert or anyone else in the thread experts on viruses / pandemics, yuekit? Slow down there. <3PonyBoy
    • Not attacking you, dude... I just find it funny that non-experts are questioning the credentials and statements of an actual MD.PonyBoy
    • So our only two choices...knowing nothing or listening to Dr. Drew host of Loveline. Got it :)yuekit
    • Here's a doctor from Italy who is actually treating patients of the virus. He seems to think it's serious
      https://www.youtube.…
      yuekit
    • Nobody is questioning the seriousness... what's questioned is the reaction caused by irresponsible reporting from politically motivated news outlets.PonyBoy
