I received a job offer yesterday, but I need to negotiate. They're so close but just a little off. I think they're reasonable people. I'm hoping they'll either bump the salary, have the company pay for a handful of things that salary bump would cover, or a combination of both. I definitely want to present a few options that would be easy to swallow. This is the most stressful part of the process.

Has anyone been offered share options? It's included in my offer, but I have no context how much I'm being offered (to buy) relative to how many exist. I'd like to know how much equity in the company I could get my hands on if I wanted.

    • Stocks are typically fixed & act as loyalty bait, u may need 4 yrs to be 100% vested. IMO go for better title or wave stocks for more $$$$. But if u interestedrobotron3k
    • In just making money off stocks, I would not hang my hat on that. There other factors, size of company, your role, time to be vested, are also in play...robotron3k
    • Sound advice this time robo ;)shellie
    • take the salary, share options are only that - optionsgrafician
    • in 3-4 years you could develop your own startup, take the money in the bag for nowgrafician
    • I still need them to come up on the salary. but its not far off.shellie

    • Creative and corporate world. I completed a full draft and hope to self publish in about 8 weeks. So best of luck with your negotiations! U can do it!robotron3k
    • Interesting Robo. i'd give that book a college try just to see what you've been getting into.shellie
    • Robo's advice on this one is indeed sound. Get the salary bump, if they are share options you should accrue as you gain seniority...ben_
    • at most companies it doesn't mean much tbh. Friends (employee #7, and one who had his biz acquired) at shopify are frigging bagillionaires now though.ben_
    • Shel I may take you up on that when I tighten up!!!!robotron3k
