Apologies for using this thread but I require an Aussie perspective...

I landed the fourth series of a TV show. Happy days. But, I’ve just been informed it’s mandatory for me to have public liability insurance or it ain’t happening.

I’m contracted to supply the gfx package, use my own gear, from my own space, no sub-contractors (on those rates, Carol?) so it makes no sense to me. It's the first I’ve heard of it from any client, ever. That includes a dozen or so contracts with the same crew, and season 1–3 of the above show.

I’ve scoured the web, NSW laws etc and it doesn’t add up for a solo desk-jockey. When I called for a quote you could tell they thought I was a bit special.

Anyone experienced this, or any thoughts?

    • Yeah sounds a little odd considering you are not shooting anything and your prior relationship with them. They probably had an "incident" and just doing it...thumb_screws
    • ...with all their contractors. Are you working for them as a sole trader or company?thumb_screws
    • Cheers. Sole trader. I know the head of the company pretty well but I don’t think that’s a good approach...MrT
    • I've never heard of this..._me_
    • Thx all.MrT
    • Did you end up having to get public liability insurance?thumb_screws
    • Yeah what's up T?sted
    • No I didn’t. I went to the higher-ups, like a dick. ‘Don’t worry about it’ reply soon followed...MrT
