In 1948 a suntan ex-NAZI, now US weapons scientist can't convince the US government to invest in space, they only want him to design ICBMs.
He goes to Disney to help envision his boyhood dream of traveling to space, creating public interest to eventually start NASA.
Filmed released in 1955, it gets awesome at 11:45, Kubrick just finished Killers Kiss the same year, you see scenes he copied for 2001.
I'm positive John Williams did the score as he did Lost in Space.
Wernher also published a book in 1953 about colonization on Mars and named the main character, Elon.
