- i love those old mercs
but
running costs...hans_glib - I own a S124 in the exact same colour for 7 years now. Not an AMG, just the 320 with some options and now 280k kms. I really like it, but make sure you getLongcopylover
- a good one with lots of services and history. I didn't and it cost me a fortune to keep it on the road. Now it would be stupid to sell, because I put so muchLongcopylover
- money and effort in it. So I will probably keep it forever, since it now will hopefully run forver. Or not haha.Longcopylover
- But a W124 with manual? I wouldn't suggest that. I love manual, but not in that car, it doesn't fit the character I think.Longcopylover
- And, funny coincidence: I am looking at E60, F11 and E90 Alpinas as possible daily driver at the moment.Longcopylover
- Ha! Well I've found a good one I think. A couple of silly things like one window not working but other than that all good. I'll take it for another drive...ShaneHolley
- ... before buying of course. I don't mind the maintenance of the merc. Still cheaper than continued running of the f11 now I've put a load of miles on it.ShaneHolley
- They're great cars. Just not cheap if something big lets go. I've just had to replace both turbos £3000.ShaneHolley
- I had an E46 sports wagon with a 5 sp manual, I loved that wagon until everything started breaking after 125K miles.fooler
- Shane, just make sure you read all the buyers guide and check for well known flaws. The car is one of the best of its time, but still a lot of things can break.Longcopylover
- Like the cables in the engine bay turn brittle, there are well known oil issues on the bigger engines, rust is an issue in various spots. But hey, it's fun. :)Longcopylover
- Nice one @longcopylover , Yeah I hear the looms are wrapped in cheese too. There's a few things I'm expecting to need work really.ShaneHolley
