you have to realize how much competition you'll have. there's so many designers with around 3 years experience. (I'm guessing you mean professional experience while being an employee.) if you want to be making the big bucks, you either got to get extremely lucky (which isn't too common nowadays) or get some more experience and a heftier portfolio. designers are willing to work for pretty cheap right now. especially all these new college grads who can't find decent jobs.
