I keep losing my steel ruler - this time it's been gone for about two weeks. I have no idea how - it's not like my workshop here is massive.

I need to have it to hand pretty much constantly, so this loss I decided to get shit together and make myself some rulers. They've been working a treat. I added in a couple of features that are uniquely handy to me, all good.

    Until just now.

I was measuring an antique box so I could etch over the top of it, but nothing was quite working right - there was a constant offset of about 10mm. I thought I was going nuts - this should be child's play!

I revert to absolute basics, go and get a measuring tape and lo! the measurement I had was wrong. What the fuck?!

Turns out dickhead here missed out 17cm on his ruler, so everything beyond 16cm measured wrong.

Thankfully this is the first time I'e encountered this problem over the past couple of weeks.

Or is it? best not think...

    • I'm sorry. There was little to no need.Nairn
    • gat a big magnet, stand in the centre of your workshop, hold the magnet out and slowly point in all directions until the ruler flys towards the magnet...shapesalad
    • ..and lodges in your left eye socket.

      The last part is optional.

    • I actually have a very large neodymium magnet, from a wind turbine apparently, which is great for sweeping the floor for tools and pins and such :)Nairn
