    In relation to the above, there's an article in today's Guardian about 'rewilding' more of the countryside in the UK, accompanied by a photo of somewhere in Scotland that's been 'rewilded'.

    The curious thing for me is how much I don't think it looks like the British (well, Scottish) countryside - I'm so accustomed to the man-made treeless landscapes that seem like the default natural state. They're not. We've spent thousands of years stripping back trees from our countryside and the present default is like a barren wasteland in comparison to how it 'should be'.
