My very good friend in NYC introduced me to her brother that I had never met before. Turns out, we like each other and he head over heels for me. It feels amazing but is also very new. We've been talking all day, every day since (texts, calls, facetime) ever since. My friend definitely encouraged this when I visited New York earlier this month.

Here's where I pause -- my friend and her brother are extremely close. I'm afraid if it doesn't work out I could lose a friend or drastically change the friendship I adore. In the same breath, I also feel like I could possibly opt out of something really good for me if all my "what ifs" take the wheel. I'm not a savage, but I just got out of a 12 year relationship and I'm dating for the first time in a long time. I'm not sure he can handle the pacing I'd need to commit. Some of the things he says leads me to believe he's really serious about how he feels about me. i just don't want to jump into the wrong serious thing even though it feels good.

He does live in another state (not New York where i frequent) about 1500 miles away. So, if were to make it work he'd have to move because I have no interest in where he lives. He has expressed the willingness to move if a long distance thing gets too difficult. But how long can that really last before we have to make a decision to be in the same city together? That definitely intensifies the seriousness of the situation because if he does move we would immediately be living together. What would you do?

    • ha - i met my wife thru my sister. i remember walking into a pub to meet my sister and sitting next to her was this gorgeous woman.hans_glib
    • i knew then and there i would spend the rest of my life with this woman. it did get a bit awkward with my sister, as she 'lost' a good friend to her brother...hans_glib
    • if he's that mad for you, he'll wait as long as you need him to. if it's just an infatuation, taking your time means he'll get bored and go. either way, win winhans_glib
    • That last bit is a bit black and white, hans. Pretty sure you can be mad for someone but get bored of waiting and move on...set
    • IMO You're in honeymoon phase, so much logistics, possible complexity, you need patience of the highest order.robotron3k
    • omg ... 1500 miles isn’t a “make it work” situation. At best you can have some fun but I say keep the friend and don’t start a relationship with her bromonospaced
    • Chill out a bit Shellie...don't overthink.BusterBoy
