As the world population is on the up, and the commodities/futures market has been indicating that agriculture is where the future money, is what will be of the most importance in the future world... as we're reading about no deal Brexit scenarios regarding food shortages... I'm thinking, it'd be a great idea to be self-sufficient as much as possible and live somewhere like this:

    https://www.rightmove.co.uk/over…

"The farm has an olive grove and about 750 feet of vineyard, several fruit trees (chestnut trees, cherry trees, orange trees), with about 0.5 ha of pine forest, with a water hole that supplies the farm's consumption and a piece of land of irrigation, also taking advantage of the irrigation water of Ribeiro dos Pomares. It is located on Monte Sete on the slope of Serra de São Mamede, a place with an extraordinary surrounding highlighting the natural diversity of the grove, such as chestnut trees and cherry trees and also the waterfalls in the area."

    Thoughts?

    • sorry.. my typing/editing is a mess...shapesalad
    • That area is beautiful, Marvão, Castelo de Vide...dmay
    • Are you in to agriculture? With a few chickens, goats, you can get to be almost self sufficientdmay
    • just thinking long term, 10 ~ 20 years, live a quiet life, rely less on global economics...shapesalad
    • it'd be a nice way to supplement an already funded retirement. but it's a grind and hard work for an old bodyGnash
    • the trees pictured here will like only produce 1-3 litres / year max (and only if they're well cared for)Gnash
    • that said the place is just the right size for a small family homesteadGnash
    • Like Gnas said, it's hard for an old boy, and if you can get a well paid work, you can get all the quality food you need...OBBTKN
    • I've got friends who invested in farms, but they use it like a hobby, to get theirself far from the bar, like a therapy...OBBTKN
    • If you count the time they spend taking care of the vegies, it's not a cheap hobbyOBBTKN
    • But I like it, coz I can get all the vegies I want for free and without any effort, heheOBBTKN
    • Ey! But if I was alone, no wife, no kids, no cats... Will buy one farm, build a studio and live la vida loca in a artsy way, no doubt.OBBTKN
    • I mean, if you're alone, go for it, life is short, everything is going very fast, this way you can get a bit of calm, sureOBBTKN
