My sound setup on my PC :
DAC : Fiio Alpen 2
-Headphones : AKG K171 Mk II
-Equalizer : Viper4Windows + APO Equalizer
Installed on WIndows 10
-That warm bass! It's day and night compared to my previous setup. Digital sound from a computer is pure crap! You have no idea until you plug a digital to analog converter (DAC) in it. If you really love music, buy one now with a decent pair of headphones.
- How can a DAC possibly work?sarahfailin
- ^ math!DRIFTMONKEY
- I'm hearing sounds for the first time on mostly all the tracks i used to listen! All the subtle sounds were gone in digital.Bennn
- and again, the bass is so warm and deep! Pure bliss!Bennn
- warm and deep....
Mmmmmmmmmpango - You’re welcome!monospaced
- "digital sound from a computer is crap" - *uses another computer*mekk
- thanks mono!
what are you talking about mekk?Bennn - you're just using another converter, that's what I mean. You already had a built in DAC in your PC, just not a good one.mekk
- and now he has a good one.
or made it sound better at least.pango - I dunno, the only thing I know is the audio quality has been improved by 500%Bennn
- yeah my point is that bennn is blaming "digital" witchcraft for his previous bad sound but is still using it. Happy for him enjoying is new setup tough :-)mekk
- ya none digital sound from computer has always been hard. cuz magnets...pango
- @mekk, please understand, a quality DAC is a real thing not to be underestimated. This is the ONLY way to high quality sound out of a PC.monospaced
- Bennn's blaming of the PC for shit sound is 100% correct. If you knew about this, you'd fully understand. The quality from this device is beyond significantmonospaced
- If you think an external DAC/headphone amp is still bad sound, then you clearly know absolutely nothing about good sound.monospaced
- A DAC takes the original sound signal (digital) and converts it to analog and amplifies it. This process is EVERYTHING when it comes to preserving quality.monospaced
- Built-in DACs are so bad these days, it's not even funny. The amps are even worse, and this applies to every single default in any laptop or PC.monospaced
- exactly mono, built-in DAC are nothing compared to a real external one, from what i've read on the topicBennn
- no kidding ... some people spend many thousands on them!monospaced
- why do you still need the pc? looks a walkman setupuan
- I spend a lot of time on my PC and this is where I listen to music the most.Bennn
- The PC provides the digital signal. It's gotta come from somewhere. The external DAC isn't a streaming device. It holds no music.monospaced
- Mono, is this better than built in on Mac?robotron3k
- yes, of coursemonospaced
- The built-in DACs in Macs are not "bad" but they are either 48 or 96khz (aka SHIT). The one Bennn got can handle 384Khz resolution. It's insanely better!monospaced
- Interestingrobotron3k
- @mekk, Bennn is completely circumventing his built-in DAC, and is now giving his quality DAC a pure digital signal via USB.monospaced
- yeah I know, dude, I was just pointing out that there is no "digital" signal coming to headphones at all, no matter what you use.mekk
- lol, okay, THAT'S what you were saying *eye rollmonospaced
- it seemed, based on all your comments, that you had no understanding of what a DAC does, how it works, or how audio can be improved by one, but glad you do nowmonospaced
- are you listening to flac files? or does it work on mp3s as well?_niko
- it works for all files, but it can't increase the bitrate if it's already low to start withmonospaced
- What type of music file works with DAC vs not?robotron3k
- ALL the sound produce by my computer go thru the DAC device. Even the QBN chime :)Bennn
- I'm hearing background noises from the recording sessions on some tracks that I never heard before, like studio noises and instruments.Bennn
- @robo, all audio goes through the DAC, regardless of source.monospaced
- and with the equalizer programs i've installed, i can tweak the sound. Its crazy.Bennn
- @Bennn what does the QBN chime sound like?Krassy
- @Krassy I hear someone saying "help me" in the background, never heard it beforeBennn
- lolKrassy
- also, there's the DAC, but I also have a very solid pair of headphones, the AKG i have are recording studio headphones, high quality, that helps a lot tooBennn
- using those headphones before, without the DAC was like putting pudding into a Ferrari. Now i'm putting proper gas into it.Bennn
- ugh these notes. all of you missed the s-pdif out? @Bennn lol, for the AKG you need some eq :) the only reason why i can't leave winamp behind is one eq pluginsted
- what works so well with my old K240 :)sted
- eq? you mean an equalizer? I have one :)Bennn
