Is graphic design just a subset of web/UI design now? Is this why I can't get hired?

    • Nope.monospaced
    • Guess I'm just shit then.i_monk
    • Nah! Doubt it.monospaced
    • Seriously considering changing your title to UI designer. The graphic design title is irrelevant today.utopian
    • I had a couple friends recently change their title, tweaked some language in their resume to reflect a "UI designer role" and got hired.utopian
    • I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling to find meaningful work :(utopian
    • People seem to hire specialist, at least in title.robotron3k
    • Visualdesigner is how I roll mostly nowadays.dpi
    • We (also) live in a physical world. Tons of stuff needs designing.jagara
    • I don’t get this at all. Graphic and UI/UX are interchangeable? Not different skill sets? Signs I’m old? Sign that UI/UX is just piffle?MrT
    • Totally different. Our team of designers are all graphic all day and we don’t touch websites. Ever.monospaced
    • phew. Not just me then!MrT
    • It seems 9/10 jobs adds want someone who's an expert at UI, but also branding and identity and print and so on.i_monk
    • I'd swear there was a time when you specialized in web OR you did branding and print stuff. Now you need both just to get in the door.i_monk
