Do you think contemporary art galleries make money?
I went to a few today and some had nice stuff on the way but no prices so I can just assume they were $1000s of dollars and others had some that just looked like trash. I understand the big galleries have clients but i don't understand who buys the cheaper pretentious art.
- Anybody, or artist's friends buy the cheapoOBBTKN
- The expensive most of the time it is used to launder money...OBBTKN
- You can't imagine the money a "famous" artist can do, when speculators buy art.
When they leave, you become the typical starving artist...OBBTKN - Very few galleries can survive now, from selling art. I know lots that have closed in the last few years around meOBBTKN
- An artist friend of mine said: one of the reasons people don't buy art, paintings, it's due to the naked walls fashion in decoration this days... lolOBBTKN
- Problem is, if you see your art cheap, people won't think you are famous/worth the investment. The high the price the high the reputation and regard.shapesalad
- Art = compound interest.shapesalad
