Do you know how rich a billionaire is?

Let’s say you earn $50k/year & save every. single. penny.

After 20 years, you’d have saved $1 million.

After 200 years, you’d be dead, but would have saved $10 million.

Only after 20,000 years(!!!), would you have saved $1 billion.

Please note, this calculation is true by making the following assumptions:

    — You never pay any taxes

    — You make no investments

    — You literally never purchase any goods or services

“Clever” trolls are pointing out compounding interest, investments, & other financial mechanisms to reach $1 billion. But that wasn’t the point.

The point was to demonstrate the order of magnitude difference between a million and a billion, often overlooked or ignored by people.

    • nobody seemed to have an issue with Oprah's billions when her name was tossed around for 2020. Seems a bit disingenuous to make his $$ a mark of evilGnash
    • uhhh ... I remember a lot of people saying she was not qualified, including myself, and that her $ wasn't importantmonospaced
    • that was back in 2016monospaced
    • I didn't gather that this post was about saying money was evil... but I will say that the money is a sign of being out of touch, perhaps. Oprah too.monospaced
    • I said people didn't mention her billions, not that she was, or wasn't, qualified. That's a separate issue.Gnash
    • shultz's billions are being used as a signifier in a way that doesn't seem to apply to others, is all.Gnash
    • I suppose we heard different things since we come from different places. I heard tons of talk about her wealth and how trump didn’t even compare.monospaced
    • Can you believe in some places all they discussed about her was racist, or hateful, or misogynist and nothing else.monospaced
