My Macbook pro died. And I'm broke.
I borrowed an extremely cheap, extremely plastic'y Lenovo Ideapad 100 laptop (RRP: $299.-). I connected it to my external monitor & sound card. Installed PS, AI, ID and Ableton Live, plus whatever else i usually use.
And it runs everything... very well. Like, i don't know the difference. I'm doing design work and I compose music, just like before.
WTF?
Makes me think. Do i need a $4000 laptop? Like, could i be perfectly happy with a $1000-$1500 one?

- @yuekit - a 2-3 year old Thinkpad HAS a decent screen and keyboard though. They're really solid machines. Aside from a small lid scuff, mine's like brand newNairn
- At this point, the only Adobe software you need a super powerful computer for is AE. Everthing else runs great on pretty much any half decent machine.monospaced

- Hackintoshes still rely so much on 3rd parties to maintain updated drivers, etc. Still require building machines, but it is starting to take off :)monospaced

- ik it sounds complicated but i use vpn and vms with remote desktop for different oses, it's fun when somebody notices that i'm using windows on my mbpsted
