Any thoughts on being on a label these days?
Could sign a 50/50 profit split, but just unsure if it's really worth it these days considering we can publish our stuff direct.
- Depends on the label. If they are well known then maybe. It will get your stuff a larger reach. But don't expect to see much or anything from that deal if afadein11
- small label. Is it all digital and/or vinyl release?
That deal is pretty standard though.fadein11 - digital and vinyl - they are small but well known, mostly release big soundtracks.inteliboy
- am thinking of not signing, but maybe just doing a vinyl release through them. though really hard to say.inteliboy
- you will make more money on a vinyl release, or should do. Digital is peanuts as I'm sure you know.fadein11
- depending on how many are pressed of course.fadein11
- If you've got a fanbase at the moment then you can do your own crowdfund vinyl on a site like https://qrates.com/microkorg
- yeah, be realistic about your profits if you go DIY... there's a lot of work in it and not much to be made on short-run vinyl...kingsteven
- a 50:50 split of a few hundred dollars is very cheap for the amount work a good label will put in to a release.kingsteven
- agreed king. Also if you do go DIY route, work with a distributor, they will press it up, promote it etc. as part of the deal if they like it. And get it in allfadein11
- the right places for you. Not as much money in it but avoids sitting on hundreds of unsold records.fadein11
- yep, distros can be frustrating but again ~20% on retail is totally acceptable on physical releases...kingsteven
- we go through cargo, and they save us >20% on pressing through their contacts and taxes/ shipping vs doing it ourselves anyway...kingsteven
- good points. thanks for the thoughts. let you know how we go.inteliboy
- What label, Inteliboy?mantrakid
