^ I'm gutted about Pete Shelley.
Not only was he the front man of The Buzzcocks, which made him partly responsible for creating some stone cold classics & organising the gigs where the Sex Pistols played in Manchester that kickstarted just about everything great that came out of the city over the next 15 years; he also wrote a piece of music that was a near constant in my formative years.
He wrote the original theme music to the Tour De France coverage when it was on Channel 4 in the 80's and 90's in the UK. I come from a family of cyclists and we watched the highlights every evening and in my head this is what that race will always sound like. I still have it as my ringtone. Here's the opening titels from 1989 and the full length version that wasn't often heard:
