This is NOT a new problem. Through the centuries the masses would succumb to manipulations by the elites. The masses will ALWAYS want what is easy to attain and consume. What has changed is who's the gate keeper of that fulfillment. Right now those are the mega tech conglomerates while in the future it will be some other entity.
As H.L. Mencken said: "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." (remove the American and you have the structures of the world laid out in front of you).
- BTW "masses" doesn't mean "stupid and uneducated" - we all fall into that category at some point or another.pr2
