I get some people need to take SSRI drugs, but it's turning many of them into callous numb inhuman aholes. There's at least one in every office.

    • it's more like that they were just born assholesGnash
    • Ssri really makes people callous, it's a fact. I bet hillary was on that shitpinkfloyd
    • SSRIs are antidepressants. For most people that need them, they make their lives happier, more stable and tolerable.monospaced
    • ^yup.Gnash
    • i know several people that ssri's are helping in really positive ways.Gnash
    • They literally numb you down. It's suppressing your depression, but it's also suppressing all of your emotions makig you less humanpinkfloyd
    • I'm not sure about the tolerable partpinkfloyd
    • ya. that's how they help, though. keep people from getting too low into that depression trough. which is so hard to get out ofGnash
    • if anything, they may not be as engaged or activated, but I don't think they become less human.Gnash
    • it's a chemical lobotomypinkfloyd
    • unless one was already an asshole. no pills for that.Gnash
    • giving people weight gain and limp libidopinkfloyd
    • when you're numbed down, your choices would be less compassionate and more assholepinkfloyd
    • whether people want to believe it or notpinkfloyd
    • that may well be true in some cases, but less-compassionate is better than suicidal. and they are often meant to be used for a limited timeGnash
    • pink, are you concluding this on opinion or personal experience taking SSRIs? it's definitely not a "chemical lobotomy" dudemonospaced
    • I have some close friends and even family members who have to have them, and they are certainly not assholes or numbed. :(monospaced
    • i'm basing this off of former psychiatrists such as peter breggin, and rober whittakerpinkfloyd
    • and experience with people who've been taking thempinkfloyd
    • My wife took them for a bit, and i agree with pinkfloyd changed her personality, libido etc but as Gnash pointed out much better than the alternative._niko
    • But studies on Psilocybin are quite promising, year long postive effetcs with a single dose with little or no side effects, changes your outlook on life_niko
    • just to clarify, i have never taken ssripinkfloyd
    • but if it's helping people from the deep depression, it should be available to thempinkfloyd
    • ^^^^see, change in personalitypinkfloyd
    • I think it’s a good idea to err on the side of caution and not just assume it’s an antidepressant causing people to act in ways you don’t like.monospaced
    • Mostly because it simply might not be the case at all. But also because that is quite generalizing and isn’t the case with all people taking them. Cheers.monospaced
    • Being numb and callous is a fact. It's what the drugs do. I just don't think 30% of the u.s. population needs it.pinkfloyd
    • I've experienced it 3 times now and i'm seeing an annoying pattern with the people take them.pinkfloyd
    • just sayinpinkfloyd
    • Oh so you know for sure that they are on them and that’s why they’re like that. Damn.monospaced
    • no, I notice patterns in their personality: controlling, always having to be right, callously oppressing for personal gains, etc.pinkfloyd
    • don't get me wrong, there's people close to me who take it as well, and they needed it :(pinkfloyd
    • So you aren’t sure they’re on the frugs at all? Anyway good luck with that.monospaced
    • Not sure what that means and why you're obsessedpinkfloyd
    • crazy...pinkfloyd
    • I'm not obsessed, sorry. I was just trying to figure out if you know they're on the drugs, or just deducing based on their behavior.monospaced
    • It's slightly personal for me. I've never taken them before, but I have close family that does. No need to call me crazy, dude.monospaced
    • SSRIs suck. There's gotta be a better way- it pretty much is a lobotomy. But I'd never judge another for taking them; this life is difficult.notype
    • ...rather, can be.notype
