A century of the armistice of World War 1 is celebrated, stirs my guts looking at all those politicians marching in Paris, the new butchers...

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    • Can’t believe it’s been 100 years . I wonder if the actions of one Serbian nationalist really sparked all of this death and destruction or if was destined to..._niko

    • Those that died in the last hour before the armistice really exemplify the futility of war. War - essentially an argument between leaders that gets out of hand.shapesalad
    • both wars were futile, nothing was gained and plenty was lost. Pretty much all countries went back to pre-war borders for a small price of 100 million lives :/_niko
    • ok, so 9-10 new countries were created/gained independence from the austro-hungarian or russian empires after ww1 so I guess it was a benefit to them._niko
    • After 100 Million deaths, which benefit? War is murder...OBBTKN
