My Akai MPK has seemly died due to a USB port problem, I'll get around to soldering it one day, in the meantime.... I'm thinking, maybe I can find a cheap synth on eBay sub £100, I can use it as a midi controller and have a bonus of an extra synth. I never really used the pads or knobs on MPK and would have preferred a pitchbend/mod wheel, Perhaps another octave. Any recommendations?

    • Arturia Keylab 49 (mk1 or 2) look like really decent controllers. As for synth, maybe Korg Monologue or similar? Or you looking for older synth?microkorg
    • difficult if you don't want mini keys... i've seen korg prophecys (prophecies?) go for around 150, no USB but a great synth for the price...kingsteven
    • Korg Poly-800s tend to sell around there too. One of my fav bargains is the Kawai K10 spectra, picked mine up for £10 and packed with classic rave sounds.kingsteven
    • Prices are way up since last time I looked but other cheap 90s synths to look out for would be Yamaha CS1x, Roland XP-30, Casio CZ-1/1000/3000kingsteven
    • I have the basic 61 key controller from Nektar. I've had it for a few years. Didn't cost much, and works great. Everything Akai I've owned has been pure shit.section_014
