  ^ Usually an iOS update means worse performance for older models, but there were updates that actually made iPhones run noticeably smoother.

  One such update was years ago, iOS 4 or 5. Another one was 10.3 when they changed over to their new filesystem. The 12 is one of those too. A speed boost so significant, it made my iPad mini 2 usable again.
