The Breakfast Club is a shitty movie. Change my mind. No seriously. How is this such a classic?
- I think you have to convince people that it's shitty first.monospaced
- The movie's thesis is trying to be that these kids aren't just typical stereotypes: jock, nerd, popular, weirdo. But all it does is reaffirm that. it fails.sarahfailin
- Also there are a ton of loose ends that aren't tied up. That teacher poking around the records. Kids break the glass door, fall through the ceiling.sarahfailin
- I hated how the dolled up the artist girl at the end. Fuck that.sarahfailin
- IMO, it succeeds. Detention exposed their similarities, not their differences. And reality sets in at the end, which is what HS is really like.monospaced
- Most 80s movies are now corny when you rewatch them as an adult. Better to keep them as a fond memory. LolHijoDMaite
- it was new, fresh and cutting edge at the timemugwart
- Maybe ask a 16 year old girl.
At this point its a time capsule
I prefer 400 blows sometimes.******** - Ask any 80s kid why it’s good.monospaced
- I watched it at the cinema as a 14yr old on a triple date. It captures the zeitgeist of the time and along with St Elmo's Fire ar still two my favourite films..Morning_star
- ...Critically and technically it's winning no oscars. But...'You see it as you want to see it, in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. ;)Morning_star
- I'm 46, so it came out when I was pretty much the same age as the characters, or just about.... I loved it then, and still do.exador1
- obviously, it's dated in many ways, and the characters are just amalgamations of different 'types' from school etc...exador1
- but mono got it right. it showed that they had more in common than they thought, that their various faults and demons made them more relatable...exador1
- at the end of the day, it's fun, has a good soundtrack, the actors did a great job, and wtf...smoke up johnny!.....judd nelson was fucking hilarious....exador1
- How old are you? a big part of it is growing up around that time and having a nostalgia for it. Also it was unlike any teen movie at the time. Mostly talking_niko
- ..no action, one set pretty much, no explosions, no gratuitous tits. It was different. it was the anti-porky's._niko
- I was born in 85, so year after the movie came out. More of a Ferris Bueler generation maybe...sarahfailin
