Have been trying to see if it's possible to obtain dual citizenship for myself and my kids. My mother was born in an eastern European country...so we thought it may come in handy for travel and/or work - especially for my kids.

So we've needed to find birth certificates for my mother and her parents - all deceased. Not a simple exercise - have needed to hire a local lawyer in order to track down the correct paperwork.

Anyway, managed to get all 3 birth certificates delivered last night.

Turns out the name my mother went by her entire life isn't actually her name! Fark me!

    • haha, completely different name, or anglicised version?Nairn
    • different name - so how do you know you got the right birth cert?shapesalad
    • wow!oey
    • That’s ok. It’s actually quite common if that eases any grief. Especially amongs immigrants.
      Glad you found them.

    • Kind of like knowing someone as Bill and then finding their name is William. Would have thought my Mum would tell us though!BusterBoy
    • I just found it quite funny...and yes it's the right person. Parents names on the cert.BusterBoy
    • Oh, and also found out the day she celebrated her birthday was wrong! Her real b'day is the same day my daughter was born...so she was super happy!BusterBoy
