I've been at my job for exactly 1.5 years, it's a well funded fintech startup, it's a good company except for my pay and now I've got another possible job offer with way better pay.

Do you typically tell your current employer you have another job offer? in hopes the give you raise or match the offer... I've never done this before, how would bring this up??

    • Yes, but expect them to NOT match. If they do, bonus. But be firm in knowing what your worth.DRIFTMONKEY
    • Yup, they can only give me a merit raise or title promotion, but i think i need to hint I'm gonna bounce if nothing happens...robotron3k
    • Yes, tell them. If they value you, they will keep you.ArmandoEstrada
    • I did this in my first job, got a pay rise and stayed where I was because I preferred it, so my answer is 'go for it'. What do you have to lose, self-respect?detritus
    • Did it. They gave me some gibberish but are going to check with HR and the CEO... we'll see if they bite. Else...robotron3k
    • Do you even want to stay? Most say that in time they wish they took the new offer. Simply considering suggests it's time to leave.whatthefunk
    • I'd love to stay, I was expecting a raise and better bonus, but wasn't that good. Tried but cant wait for 2 years for a raise...robotron3k
    • robotron, do you know what it is that you want?notype
    • did you try to get a raise before looking for a new job?mekk
    • If they are not willing to raise your pay, maybe you can get a raise by lowering your work hrs, like have Fridays off equals 20% raise. I'd take that..mekk
