I went to see SOLO last night in an empty theatre. When the film was over the cleaning guy just popped his head in and then walked out.
Overall it wasn't a Star Wars film, it was a good science fiction movie, but lacked any of the dialog, structure, mystery or storytelling a Star Wars movie usually plays around with. For Disney / LucasFilm to make a single stand alone film focusing on such a strong character in the SW universe could have been a slam dunk in opening up backstories to popular figures in the franchise. But they really blew it with this one.
Don Glover did a good Billy De Williams impersonation from time time, Emilia Clark was lovely, especially towards the apex of the film, Alden Ehrenreich was a good as a unplugged toaster. Woody Harrelson gave it a good shot as well.
If you haven't seen it, you should, so that you can see what a film that was predicted by an executive board looks like. But don't pay full price for a ticket, sneak into the theatre or watch a bootleg version.
I hope there are some lessons Disney has learned from this film.
- BTW, Ron Howard shouldn't have directed this film. It looked like a machine learning algorithm spit this shit out.jmckinno
