I pay £700pm in Lisbon for a 1 bed apartment, recently renovated, furnished including a full set of Ikea kitchen stuff, sheets+towels, all bills included, a cleaner every two weeks, high speed wifi, 300+ tv channels+big TV, and it has a cute little balcony. Pretty much a long term Airbnb. It's 15mins walk to city centre. Supermarket 3mins away. River side running track 5mins away. Bars, shops etc, everything within walking distance. Tropical park 10mins away. Landlord is super nice and rental contract is flexible. No agency fees etc.

Just looking at the London market for my August move... WTF!

£1200pm just for a shite studio where you sleep next to your fridge/kitchenette, zero storage space and renovation/decor is offensive, not to mention + bills + agency tenancy fee + reference fees on top of that £1.2k and it's 15mins walk to the nearest metro station.

    £1400pm for a 1 bed flat in zone 3

£700pm in rent only, barely gets you a single bed room(with no desk and hardly any storage space) in a god awful flat share shared with 4+ others.

I see a job on for a senior motion designer, pay is £30k~£35k in central London.

What the hell is going on in London?

    It's economically unviable.

Did I mention a bottle of good local wine can be had for less than £2 in Lisbon. Plus 300 days of sunshine. And beach within 1 hour.

Everyone in London... leave and relocate to the rest of the world. It's tonne better... and then it might be cheap enough for me to move back.

    • Last time I rented a room in London for £6-700 pm was pre 2000. Whilst rent has probably doubled or tripled since then salaries have barely risen...dee-dubs
    • You could live in something like this.. https://www.thecolle…

    • I can't recall ever seeing places for single occupancy under £1000 in my near 20 years in this effing city.detritus
    • Can't you stay in Lisbon, but do LDN-based work? We looked into this a while back, but from BCN, until my partner 180'd and decided we'd be staying for 5 years.detritus

    • I used to pay £1040 for a spacious 1 bed+outdoor space, in a portered building in Maida Vale. Took me a month to find it and took it within 1hour of it listing.shapesalad
    • I actually started to consider that collective crap, if it was for 1month/3month kinda works while getting sorted out. but 9m minimal contract...shapesalad
    • I want to 'pivot' my career direction and LDN would be useful for that. + GF moving there for masters. Otherwise Lisbon, same timezone as LDN = perfect.shapesalad
    • I hope Brexit doesn't f'up any future chances to move back.shapesalad
    • 1.140€/month in Lisbon for a 1 bed apt... Woah!!OBBTKN
    • ^ no, I pay €800 EUR = £700 GBP, all inc.shapesalad
    • Your GF's masters had better be worth it! Shelling out that kind of cash to live in LDN is fucking painful, and salaries are miserable.Continuity
    • Then again, I remember my spot in flatshare in Kingsland Rd in 2010 costing north of £300/week. Fucking awful.Continuity
    • ^ yep...shapesalad

    • My rent in London hasn't gone up once in ten years of being here. Agents are the problem. Get them out of the picture asapRanger
    • ^ same, my rent went up a reasonable 1% before over 6 years, but then the landlord noticed the potential market value and didn't want to renew contract.shapesalad
    • Curious to hear, what's the income level in relationship to London or New York?martinadolfsson
