while cinema 4d may be slightly less intimidating up front...due to the fact that it's a combined modeler, animation, and rendering app...it has maturity and depth with it's many modules...learn how to write coffee scripts...use the xpresso system to build dynamic particle systems or intricate simulations...whatever. The possibilities are nearly endless...there is so much to learn and explore...
I found this to be a decent resource....but the best would be the manual...or a personal friend who happens to be a cinema expert!
