These used to be the most bad arse computers out there when I first started. Would have to stay out of hours to study on one:

Now look at what is out there:

To be fair what they did with what was at the time is still stella but still! The youth will never know what a boot time feels like!

    • SGI was 10 years ahead thanks to the advanced ascii processor and pricey high end RAM and SCSI configurations. Market forces standardized everything on X86.
      ********
    • IRIX was a badass operating system. THere was nothing better until OpenStep.
      ********
    • Funny that SGI standardized on a unified motherboard w/ integrated gfx long before Apple did.
      ********
    • BTW these are the workstations I learned CGI on so I am enamored w them from a nostalgic angle.
      ********
    • #friendship!mugwart
    • learnt shake on them! As well as UNIX/ coding.mugwart
    • I remember shake... It was the rotopaint app right?
      ********
    • more compositing app. Roto was a world of pain in there but it did do thatmugwart
    • yeah it was one of the only apps that output 10/16 bit color for film
      ********
    • was the only one. Then it was 10bit cineon files.mugwart
    • Flame and Smoke did but that was Win NT
      ********
    • If I remember correctly
      ********
    • Flame/Smoke/Inferno - came with their own OS if I remember. It was definitely a form of UNIX.mugwart
    • I used Flame in Win Nt (x86 alpha)
      ********
    • Maybe before nt there was an irix variant
      ********
    • might have been on both.mugwart
