Meanwhile I've spent the last few evenings perusing 'shit' on Alibaba and working out what the mark up would be on items I sold over here in Londonistan.

It's the same fundamentals as Bitcoin - cheap Chinese energy converted into valueSomethings and exchanged for Western $H£K£L - except there're actual somethings for the money.

I might take the plunge - I've been wanting to dip my toe in Chinese tat trading for a while now.

    • tat trading?sarahfailin
    • Well, not quite tat, I'm just being self-consciously dismissive... .detritus
    • There's something I want for myself that I've priced up retail here, and making here - i found cheaper versions for both ops on AliBaba, which I could modifydetritus
    • have you had any issues dropshipping?Gnash
    • Bitcoin keyrings?shapesalad
    • Oh, I've not even started yet - and I wouldn't be drop-shipping, more direct reselling after modifying.detritus
    • I recently caught a client out who used the alarmbell term "start up" in relation to their small biz - they had some obvious gaps in knowledge ...detritus
    • ...which prompted me to search on Alibaba for the 'unique handmade items' they were claiming to make here, and lo, there they were. At very low prices.detritus
    • I was at first bemused by their chutzpah and then niggled by the thought "well, if they can, why can't I?". I just wouldn't ever refer to myself as a 'startup'.detritus
    • The other alarmbell term in emails is when people refer to themselves as an 'entrepreneur'. "Aye, lass, I'm sure you think that. Ya spoilt shmuck".detritus
    • Oh, and 'Atelier'. If I had a penny for every spoilt rich-parented daughter who'd started an 'atelier' on the flimsiest of concepts, I'd have.. ooh, about 20p.detritus
    • I got things dropshipped from Aliexpress to Amazon for a couple of months. It was definitely profitable until couple of sellers setn wrong items or shipped lateBeeswax
    • and Amazon blocked my account, That was the end of my adventure.Beeswax
    • How are you going to know what sells before placing bulk orders? Because I sold over 20 items and most unexpected ones were the best sellers like flower potsBeeswax
    • Well, I won't! :) I know that I want one and that there's a market for them here, and i can minimum order at not too high a number. Beyond that, it's all beliefdetritus
