Every time I end an apologetic written response with "I'm afraid" as every good Englishman should, it doesn't look at all right. Especially when I'm writing to someone who has English as a second language, as I have just now to a Norwegian client.
I wonder "what must she think is so terrifying here, and why don't I flee rather than continung to write this email?".

- Well, you're talking to descendents of the Vikings, who once thoroughly pillaged your count. You have good reason to be afraid.BustySaintClaire
- Wait, so as a replacement for the ending salutation, like "Sincerely," you write "I'm Afraid" ?? What?sarahfailin
- It's the response - ie. a sentence - that ends in '..., I'm afraid' not the entire email. Sorry that wasn't clear.detritus
