Matt Damon is 100% correct. Some of this is getting ridiculous. There is poor behaviour and people being a jackass. And there is serious sexual assault.
There's a big fucken difference. It's not condoning either...both are crap and need to be dealt with. But some of the carry-on now is getting beyond stupid...like equating shoplifting an Apple and serious armed robbery.
- in your analogy, both offenses carry jail time. shoplifting an apple is still grand theft. Should the shoplifter just go free?shellie
- If the shoplifting is chronic should u be treated like it was ur 1st time? wouldn't the shoplifter end up getting as much time as the armed robber in the end?shellie
- also this is coming from a guy who said on TV (project greenlight) that diversity is not for behind the scenes. He's kinda a dick imo. Just another perspective.shellie
- he's in business w/a lot of these people getting caught up or that might have secret dirt on them. He has 101 reasons why he'd to try & protect them or himself.shellie
- 1. shoplifting an apple may be grand theft in 'murica...not in most civilised countries though.BusterBoy
- 2. If it's chronic, it should be treated differently than the first offence.BusterBoy
- 3. Any amount of shoplifting should NEVER be treated the same as armed robbery.BusterBoy
- 4. Yes he's in an industry where many may have secret dirt. Doesn't mean he can't have an opinion.BusterBoy
- It's hard for me to believe they get caught on their 1st time "shoplifting" to keep the analogy going but i doubt we'd ever agree about this so I'll get my coatshellie
- no don't go! Happy to have a civil discussion :)BusterBoy
- The Lord Mayor of my city has stood aside based on a single allegation. Fair enough...let justice take its course. BUT he's being crucified online by idiots..BusterBoy
- ...claiming "where's there's smoke" as though he's automatically guilty. I find the trial by media disturbing and completely unfair in this environment.BusterBoy
- Great the movement is happening...BUT we still need to follow some procedure here.BusterBoy
- I think it will calm down for sure. But dont u think some of this severe fallout is doing a mass reset w/that behavior moving forward? everyone's been warnedshellie
- and my reaction to matts comments i admit are colored by other comments he's made that were the same flavor of tone-deaf AND I've been harassed byshellie
- a man in a professional setting, only to find out 13 years later I wasn't the only one. He didn't rape me, but i battle with not blowing up his spot.shellie
- no doubt hes left a trail of messes over the yrs besides the 2 others i know about now. he didn't rape me but he also shouldnt be the boss of anybody for real.shellie
- i am biased because this hits close to home. Also see my post 13 down about the man who forced a kiss on me in the subway. also not rape but i felt violated af.shellie
- so maybe since you can't relate so much as a man, try putting yourself in the victim's shoes. imagine your daughter, mother, sister. would you feel different?shellie
- Sure...and fir enough. I see where you're coming from. It sure is a massive reset, and any bloke that carries on with that behaviour now would have to be stupidBusterBoy
- Men used to think they could get away with that shit...so I hope this movement changes that ridiculous assumption.BusterBoy
- hey i think we found some common ground. when does that ever happen?shellie
- ohhhhhhhh &i also read something wrong to clarify by apple i thought mac. im glad we didnt get off track w/that smallish misunderstanding. convo still holds up.shellie
- cos i would place assult in line with a little more extreme than stealing an apple or a candy bar. i think that minimizes the seriousness a bit.shellie
- and i also think verbal harassment, flashing your privates, unwanted touching are all way more serious than stealing an apple or a candy bar.shellie
- +1, 2, 3, 4...shellie...********
- fuck Matt Damon********
- I don't disagree with shellie's sentiments. And Damon may well be a hypocritical enabler. But I don't see how anyone can disagree with his latest statements.BusterBoy
- When we start looking to celebrities like him to be a thought leader, who has not once ever presented themselves as such, we have a problem.notype
- He just became part of the problem.notype
- ^********
- maybe you don't see cause you're in the privileged side of the story? I'm not accusing you of anything personally by the way.********
- I don't think what Damon has said is wrong. We need to be sensible about all this to try and understand why and how it's happening in the first place.Ianbolton
- The conversation, the outcome and the future is certainly going to be a better if we can get through this, for men and women.Ianbolton
- So let's not start getting trigger happy and fucking up every single person's life, but sure, let's make a statement so people do get the message.Ianbolton
- welp at least there was some calm contructive discussion on this one. im proud of us. lets all have a digital beer together. Happy Monday.shellie
- Digital thumbs up...
Not sure that came out right!BusterBoy
