    I just keep reading these things and the only thing that comes to mind is Trump on top of a castle pouring gasoline everywhere as the fire that has engulfed the world approaches

    Like there are ways to debate how we got here, but the fact we are here (at least in America, and actually most of the west) is astounding as it is tragic.

    What terrifies me is that throughout history the most horrific events have been the most surprising that only make sense in retrospect. Sure there are threats of Nazis resurging but in truth the potential for a new, never-before-seen type of horror is very, very present. And there aren't the social mechanics to fight back against, say, massive militaristic operations run by governments in the light or behind the curtain.
