Companies I know don't use any offsite solutions to store their production data so i can understand, just the archives. Currently the largest one I know is a post-production company 4cut.hu they have a contractor for the hw maintenance and backups, and developed an asset management software 3 years ago. they're using a 7.2pb rack as their local storage in this way:
masters storage (4petabytes+externals)
production storage (revisions 2petabytes+externals)
published storage (1pb for low-res footages, metadata, client low-res previews, inernets 100mbit output)production live storage (4tb/station)
this stuff is more than 2k/month just think about replacing the broken disks every month, and whatever you do the bandwidth of the internal network is critical.
