I'm not religious, but it's hard for me to understand the position of atheists. One can't know the unknowable, if there is a god or not. I have an easier time understanding the position of religious people.

I've always felt that it's entirely possible that there is a god of some kind, but to me, likely not anything that is aware of us. Certainly not any sort of human form.

I always go back to the giant cosmic cow reference. It's a possibility that the entire universe is just the molecular level of some giant "thing", and all the stars and planets are just cells within it. There's no way to know what's outside the universe, or how it came into being, so for an atheist to just come to the conclusion that there is no god at all, it's very silly to me, and sort of ignorant to even think that.

But I also recognize that there could be a god that is aware of us, that created all this. I can't say otherwise, so to me, being agnostic makes the most sense. It always seemed like the most logical position for me personally.

    • lol so believing in something with no evidence is easier than not? that makes no sense to a rational mindmonospaced
    • i'm agnostic myself but sometimes believing in nothing is better than believing we all live in a cow or on the back of a giant turtlescarabin
    • Trying to invoke logic in a statement about faith makes no sense. Sorry. Faith in the supernatural is an emotional thing, not a logical one.Continuity
    • yeah, exactly! Hahahahahamonospaced
    • I agree with Cyg. Looking at this entire incredible universe, believing in the possibility of something.IRNlun6
    • Belief in something larger than we are is not always this onerous force of control post-modernism makes it out to be.IRNlun6
    • Someone who claims (to know) there are no gods isn't merely an atheist, they are a positive or strong or gnostic atheist. Which is just one form of atheism.i_monk
    • The other form is negative/weak/agnost... atheism, which you're intimately familiar with because that's your position on all the gods you've never heard of.i_monk
