It was as bad as Prometheus, if not worse.

The characters were the barest outlines and too numerous/indistinct. I think I only caught two of their names, but I was never really sure how many there were. Crudup's conflict over being a man of faith (is that all he's allowed to play now since coming out as Super Christian?) not wanting it held against him in a rational world was interesting, but my description of it is about as much attention as it got on screen. Tennessee is from Tennessee so he wears a Tennessee cowboy hat and drinks Tennessee whisky: what is this paint-by-numbers bullshit being passed off as characterization? Motives are paper thin.

Michael Fassbender kissing Michael Fassbender is a perfect metaphor for how self-indulgent, narcissistic, and fan-service-oriented this franchise has become, recycling the core elements of Alien and Aliens without any real understanding for why those movies have been put on a pedestal by fans. If there are any more Alien movies I hope Scott is kept as far from them as possible, because someone needs to break it out of the rut the franchise has fallen into aping itself.

Throwing in Giger sketches was a shark-jump moment for sure.

    • I said it from the jump, this was going to suck and it did.severian
    • Prometheus might have ben "bad" to you, but they should have stuck that story and improved it. At least that was an original thought.severian
    • Just realized I confused Crudup with Jim Caviezel, so ignore that bit.i_monk
