Rey has to be a Skywalker. George did the original outline for 7, 8 and 9, and before force awakens came out, he did some little Q&A thing with JJ, and he asked JJ, "So what happens to Darth Vaders grandchildren?", and JJ said, "I dont know George, you tell me."
The whole thing is a family story, so I would be VERY surprised if they change that and make her a Kenobi relative or something. I think the idea is that her and Kylo are related, so that is going to play into the drama over the next 2 movies, and I would imagine he'll find redemption at the end, like Vader did.
