in regards to utopian's question on how to do this - if in 3D, you look at the triangulated 3D object straight on, with the photo projected from the same view - it'll just look exactly like the photo.
Hence, you need some movement to be able to see that it's projected onto each triangle face.
So going if your client wants a still image, i'd be better to take your triangle reference photo, make it black and white, then overlay it over the stock photo of the guy in PS.
