I can't be arsed to read all these responses because i believe that in an intergrated culture you will have language crossover. What happens is that language develops and changes.
I know what the original post is trying to say, that people imitate accents that they believe represent a strata of society that they themselves would like to be part of or be associated with. I don't believe this is wrong, and is generally a pursuit of the younger generations (such as ourselves) as we try to find our identities.Nothing new in it either. Take people talking 'Mockney' or people trying to have good elecution so as they are pecieved as a higher class of society.
