I've been there almost a decade ago. What I saw was a ruin of a beautiful country set in geographical paradise. A broken people stripped off their property and dignity by their oppressive authorities.
A few years ago travel restrictions for Cubans were loosened, but only on paper. They still live in an open prison.
Even now a passport is not a given right, the officials can deny issuing it to anyone. If you're a doctor, you will not be allowed to leave, it's a measure set to prevent "brain drain".
