Trump supporters keep saying things like he will reform Washington, we just overturned the system, it's all gonna change now. They put so much faith in one person, ignoring the fact that we have an entire political system that makes policy and passes legislation.

And the Republican Congress that has just been empowered has basically the exact same policies they did back in the Bush era, with an entire agenda ready to go. Tax cuts, entitlement reform, all that stuff.

Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are the people you just handed the keys of the country to, not just Trump. The most consequential thing to come out this vote for instance could easily be the privatization of Social Security and Medicare.

Now maybe Trump will veto all of that, but I wouldn't bet on it based on his seeming lack of interest in policy.

    • I'm interested in how he will actually follow through with any of his shit promises: ending violence in black communities, build wall, etcmonospaced
    • Paul Ryan is our only hope2002
    • Have you looked at Paul Ryan's economic policies? They are actually pretty radical, but not at all what Trump people voted for.yuekit
    • That is the agenda that is ready to go, now that the GOP has complete control of government. Yet was hardly discussed in the campaign.yuekit
    • Trump may turn out to be one of the best Presidents ever.robotron3k
    • Paul Ryan is gone.robotron3k
    • Will be a goner soon. he's disloyal.robotron3k
    • I'd be happy if he was, but I doubt it. And he did endorse Trump in the end.yuekit
    • Maybe you can tell us how Trump's policies will be different from establishment GOP, aside from just being the best and awesome.yuekit
    • What are the things you expect Trump to do in office, that actually have a realistic chance of happening (i.e. also supported by Congress)yuekit
    • First and most important, no war with Russia. Then better international relations, already in motion. A huge first start.robotron3k
    • There was not actually going to be a war. I agree less conflict with Russia could be good, but aside from that?yuekit
    • Most of the world is reacting with a mixture of disbelief and fear right now.yuekit
    • Anyway I was talking more about domestic policies.yuekit
    • hope and changeIRNlun6
    • What war with Russia is he going to end? Seriously? Jesus.monospaced
