I sent a tube with three prints to make a large triptych to Utah. Sent it on Monday Oct 17th to hopefully arrive by Friday Oct 21st. The customer had purchased it as a Bday gift for her husband. The Bday was Oct 21st. I went to one of those mom n pop mailbox etc./ups stores. I opted for the cheapest shipping which was USPS ground. I sent the customer the tracking info, and said thank you. She messages me a day later that the tracking info says it will arrive the 27th. So I said shit! sorry about that, I should have sent it earlier or faster shipping. I offered her a 15% refund and to let me know when it arrives.
To this day she still has not received it. So after talking to the USPS they tell her that it arrived in Colorado on the 25th and never left. They think the package is lost and they will contact her in three days. I told her this was not her fault and that I would refund her all the money she spent and offer her any of my prints up to 16" x 24" size for free.
So the price she paid was $240 and it cost me $100 to print and ship everything. So now I have to refund her all $240 and send her a free print when she wants. Or, I told her we can wait the three days and see what happens, and if it does not arrive then I can ship the same order to her and use a better shipping method with insurance (like I should have done the first time).
I'm so fucking pissed!
lessons learned:
-never, ever use USPS again. always UPS or FedEx
-always purchase insurance
-stop offering free shipping
-write some kind of disclaimer on my website that says, "not responsible for lost or stolen packages" or some shit like that.
how would you guys deal with this?
- all of the abovemonospaced
- that sucks, if it happens again never use them again, plus you should take out insurance for these types of situations.utopian
- what if it's delivered and she doesn't tell you?Hayoth
- The sku gets scanned at various stages including when it arrives at the recipients local post office. Shouldn't be any question if they received it or not********
- I've had packages taken (stolen) from my doorstep before after successful delivery. Not all deliveries require signatures and some are just left there.monospaced
- Idk fedex lost 3 very expensive packages for a week last week. I talked to 10 different fedex ppl. My packages are split up and ended up on the other side of thshellie
- I just fucking got the last one yesterday and i had to pick it up in deep brooklyn at the shipping station. Smh that cost me a ton in lost sales.shellie
- Usps is actually great. Get insurance and signature and delivery confirmation tho. You have to ask for it. Signatures cost 2 or 3 more bucks.shellie
