blimey, forgot the rastro... after checking it out grab yourself a cup of olives and head up to a tiny restaurant in the top square called 'oliveros' for a decent madrileño 'cocido' stew. Also be sure to drink 'marques de riscal' rioja, and whiskey dyc with coke. Casa Patas is pretty good, but very expensive, the best flamenco I've seen is for free, but question of being in the right place at the right time. Best bet is to go to a place called 'la solea' on Cava Baja at about 1am any night of the week for spontaneous flamenco jams... also def. check out a bar called 'mi gente' in lavapies....
