im building mine right now... AMD is the way to go.. read up on the articles that rate the 2... intel, doesnt lose by much, but still loses. AMD also are MUCH easier to overclock if you have the cooling, your computer can run MUCH faster then the factory gives you...
i have a 2.17GHz processor running up at 2.6... and i could probably go faster...
the floppy thing... you need it.. its a just in case thing... or some sort of drive you can boot off of... incase some bad shit happens to your main drive...
