  if you have some heat shrink tubing and a soldering iron it's pretty easy to shorten one of the wires. just chop out the part you don't want and splice it back together.

  you could get away without the soldering iron but if you're hacking something nice you're gonna want the added security of the solder.

  use the heat shrink tubing to give it all a clean finish.
