What I have a hard time understanding is that even with all the bloodshed through centuries, people just shrug it off as "that was then, it's different now", and yet there's still horrible things happening in the name of religion (priest cover ups, ISIS, etc.).

If we eliminated ALL religion, would these things still go on? Surely humanity can be evil, but so organized, with such purpose? I don't know, maybe it would (looking at the nuts here in the US that have committed atrocities).

I just find it so hard to digest how people can shrug off parts of history, parts of a book but believe so heartily in other parts.

    • Religion and politics are easy but ultimately misguided targets for blame. It's humankind that's the problem. As Slipknot say People = ShitMorning_star
    • Right, but people not only created religion, they also are continuously revising interpretations and acting on those conclusionsformed
    • Humans are naturally curious and insecure creatures. Myth and lore evolved as a canon of natural wisdom. Clever humans created religions when they realised...Morning_star
    • ...myth and lore had value and were ways to control other humans.Morning_star
