Anyone know much about camera lenses?
I'm looking to change my lens from 50mm to either a 24mm or 40mm lens to work in a smaller confined area of 4'x4' for product photography shots. I need to get more background in my shots, but I'm worried about getting distortion with a 24mm lens. I wonder if a 40mm will make a difference to the 50mm lens. Any thoughts of whether a 24mm or 40mm lens might be better?- What size sensor is it? 24mm is much wider than 50mm and will change the appearance of the products a lot.********
- If you want to get it perfect, find someone with a cheap zoom you can borrow, and test the different focal lengths.********
- maybe rent the 40mm option from a shop to get a real test.capn_ron
- How big is the background? What's the set up like?pango
- Sensor size APS-C (22.3 x 14.9 mm)?********
- never thought about renting lenses before.********
- Background and table is both 2'x4' which gives me 4'x4' of space for my tripod.********
- renting can be pretty cheap for lenses that aren't too expensive.capn_ron
- i estimate renting costs about 12% of the lens. i think using a return policy could be cheaper as long as there is no shipping or restocking costs.********
- judging from the description of your set up.... you might actually want something higher focal point. 70mm and up.pango
- set the camera as far as you have can. Cuz lens with higher focal point actually magnifies the background relatively.pango
- not sure if you need macro feature... depends on how big is the subject in relation to the background....?pango
- Won't i need more space to shoot with a 70mm lens? I can barely move around with a 50mm********
- i do need closeups. I just got a used 'like new' 40mm lens for under $100, and saved $50. i just hope there's a useful difference between a 40mm and 50mm.********
- ...but now that you mentioned a 70mm lens and them being so pricey, i may have to think about renting!********
