These are quite ambiguous things to say about any artist. Kendrick is a fantastic new hip hop name smashing out two amazing albums, much in the same thought as Kanye making College Dropout and his earlier records, with more of a street level aesthetic. I think Kanye becomes more important and relevant as he disconnects from the real world (if that's what he's doing) and develops a character which never ceases to polarise opinions. But how do you go on producing new stuff without it becoming staid or vapid? To compare Kendrick to Kanye is dumb as fuck just because they make hip hop, but inevitably I'm sure the Beatles were compared to every other pop act around their time when in reality they were losing the plot on acid and making some of the most inventive, creative music ever created.
